Desmond Obe
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Desmond Obe is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of DesMind, where he leads the company's strategy, engineering and research. He is an AI engineer and researcher with more than eight years of experience across engineering and information technology in Nigeria, Japan and Australia.
Desmond is a Machine Learning Engineer at JutaLab, where he builds production machine-learning pipelines, retrieval-augmented generation systems and large language model integrations. He first worked at JutaLab from 2017 to 2019 in systems administration and IT support, looking after servers, networks and more than 100 users at a 95% first-call resolution rate. As an IT Consultant with Nanocodes Programming from 2024 to 2025, he led Microsoft 365 and cloud operations for Study Cairns and Risk 2 Solution Group and delivered web and mobile applications on AWS and Azure. As a Network Analyst Engineer at Globacom from 2021 to 2023, he reduced base-station downtime by about 10% and increased network capacity by about 25%. His career began with electrical and solar installation projects at Palm Tree Technology.
He is a PhD candidate in Artificial Intelligence at James Cook University (2025 to 2029), researching privacy-preserving artificial intelligence for assessment and intervention in perinatal mental health, and a Casual Academic there in the Advanced Mobile Technology and Mobile Computing subjects. His research is published in IET Power Electronics, the Journal of Power Electronics, the Journal of Energy Systems and Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution. As a JASSO scholar at Hokkaido University in Japan, he researched energy policy for wind and thermal systems.
Desmond holds a Master of Information Technology with Distinction from James Cook University (2023 to 2025), a Master of Engineering in Power Electronics with Distinction from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (2019 to 2023), and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Engineering with Second Class Upper honours from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. His awards include the International Student Excellence Award from Study Cairns (2024), the Postgraduate Research Scholarship (2025) and International Excellence Scholarship (2023) from James Cook University, and the JASSO Scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization (2016). He has also served as a Student Ambassador for James Cook University.
He is an Associate Member of the Australian Computer Society, a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the International Association of Engineers.
Julieth Obe
Director of Finance
Julieth Obe is the Director of Finance at DesMind, where she oversees financial management and invoicing and is the first point of contact for quotes, invoices and billing.
Julieth is a financial analyst with experience in financial reporting, planning support, audit support, business support, administrative coordination and operational management. She has worked as a Financial Analyst at Bunnatex Associates, an audit, tax and advisory firm, supporting its financial advisory, audit support, business support and strategic planning services. She joined the firm in September 2024 as an onsite staff member and moved to a fully remote role in February 2025. She has also worked as a Financial Analyst at Finishing Warehouse.
Earlier in her career, she worked with the Delta Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (DARDA), supporting financial reporting and monitoring, alongside experience in operational management and computer training.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and lives in Queensland, Australia. Julieth is committed to professionalism, integrity and practical financial and business solutions that support organisational growth and efficiency.
